Oh yes! age is a number, that’s very true, but what is important is not the number but what you feel inside. Your age should not discourage you from pursuing and realizing your dreams, visions, or aspirations. Unfortunately, when people hit 50, they start to think that they are too old, and therefore too late to venture into business.
Emesa George said” disregard your age, for it does not matter,”
In my walks of life, I have met many older people, I have heard them saying that” I am too old and rusty, good for nothing, I wish I was still young, the time has passed me by, I do not believe I have what it takes anymore, these new technologies are too much for me to comprehend, I was born before these iPhones, Ipads computers and tablets. The list goes on and on and on. I think you have met such people or maybe you are thinking the same. Let me say that society has made us think that way.
THE SOCIETY AND OLD AGE
Society has helped to influence opinions about old age by reinforcing the negative attitude towards older people. There are certain stereotypes towards the “baby boomers” that they are shorthand for ill health, inactive, unproductive. While this statement might be true, I beg to differ, because not all over the 50s fit into that description. Even those who have ill health there is something they can give to society, why? There are older people who are very vibrant, active, skillful, and knowledgeable.
Therefore do not worry about what the society has painted the old aged, this is your life, your dream and you only live once. Make the most of it.
YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES
There is a saying that life begins at 40, which means at 50 you are actually in the prime of your life. The older you are the more you have to offer. People over the age of 50 have a lot of experience and have been exposed to many challenges compared to the younger generation. They express positive views about their profession, jobs, and industry. Therefore, as an older person do not feel ashamed about your talents, skills, or sharing your experience with others, in actual fact others are looking for role models to help them in their career. Your knowledge and skills will benefit your community
SELF EMPLOYMENT ON THE INCREASE IN ABOVE 50
Statics record that ¼ of all new businesses were created by people over 50. There are now 2.27 million over the 50s who are working for themselves, and more than 949,000 over 60s in 2019 which is an increase of 64% compared to 2009 which was 597,000.
Let’s look at some of the notable entrepreneurs who have made a difference in the world. They created their businesses when they were over the age of 50.
These men are people like you and me,but the only difference is that they had a dream, a passion to do something and they did.
NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT
Do you have a dream, a passion to start a business but you feel you are too old and rusty, time is passing you by, let me put your mind at rest.
You are not too old and never too late to set another goal or to dream a new dream!!!!!!
I thought the same, in my mind, I thought that starting online was for the younger generation, those who were born in the Ipad, iPhone, laptop error. For some time I was scared to venture into online business and what held me back was my ego. I did not want people to think that I was ignorant and did not know how to use current technology. I thought I was supposed to be a computer wizard with a lot of followers on social media. What a wrong perception.
I discovered that with the support of great and experienced mentors I was able to learn skills that I never thought existed. My eyes were opened to new technology, skills, and talents I have never thought at my age I would be able to master the concepts, well I did. I put away my ego and opened my mind and brought myself to a position of wanting to learn more because I have a dream to fulfill.
You might say, I am already old and rusty, what if I fail, the truth being said, most of the people who start their business have failed some way or another. If you read the history of successful people they will tell you their story. I remember when I was young I used to recite a poem: Try try again if at first you don’t succeed try try again.
If you are in a marathon and you accidentally, fall, rise up and dust off that dust and start running again, in the end, you will successfully get to the finish line at your own pace. What is important is to start, someone once said,
“You learn more from failure than from success, do not let failure stop you“.
Do not quit, do not give up, stay on course, you are not too old and never too late to start an online business.
